The NBA is back in action this week, which means it’s time to fire up our NBA predictions again and see exactly what the league’s future might hold. You could be amazed to learn the 2018-19 Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets look great on paper, while the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings… do not.
OK, so that is not really surprising. But in the huge space between the favorites and bottom-feeders, there are players and a few intriguing storylines to watch. And we are going to be bringing you a new method to follow these improvements all season long following a tweak to how we create predictions this year. Scroll down to the bottom if you want the full details, but in brief, our interactive page now contains two projection options: pure Elo and CARMELO.1 The former is well-known to FiveThirtyEight readers — it is the very simple version that appears on our franchise pages — although the latter is much more complicated, with team depth charts and constantly updating player ratings to track exactly how much talent is on each group (after accounting for trades, injuries and disgruntled teammates).
